Kent Junior Newsround Update no. 2
Congratulations to Anantha Anilkumar who
has qualified to represent England as part of the U11 England Chess Squad.
English Primary Schools Chess Association
runs a series of tournaments to help select a squad of players from England to
represent the country. The selection process is tough and players have to travel
around England to various tournaments in order to qualify for the final trials
which were held in Liverpool on the weekend of the 27th and 28th
of April.
Both Anantha Anilkumar and Francesco
Bernardini qualified for the trials from Kent this year, so a big well done to
them both!
Furthermore, Anantha qualified to play for
the squad, finishing top in this final tournament with 5 points out of six,
winning 4 and drawing 2 of his games. His first appearance will be at the
England Squad vs the Rest of the Country match in June and then he will be part
of a team playing against a team from Flanders later this year.
