Strong start for the Kent Kestrels at the J4NCL
Well done to the Kent Kestrels, who came second in Division One of the J4NCL, played over the weekend of 3-4 October at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport.
The Kestrels team were: Ximan Mao, Mikey Watson, Jacob Watson, Alejandro Ito-Aramendia and Aurideep Nayak. The team played some high quality chess and won all three rounds on Saturday, making them joint leaders of the competition going into the second day.
Round four, on the Sunday morning, was the crucial match against the Midland Monarchs. The boys all played well against strong opponents, but unfortunately just lost the round by one point. However, they didn’t let disappointment take over and went on to win round five against another high graded team, Brown Jack.
Final results were Kent Kestrels second place on 8 match points and Midland Monarchs first on 10 points.
Thanks to all at the J4NCL for organising another high quality and fun tournament. The boys all enjoyed the chess, playing together, meeting up with friends from around the country, and being in a hotel with a swimming pool.
The next J4NCL will be on the 22-23 November at the Holiday Inn, Birmingham Airport and the final weekend on the 9-10 January. If any other Kent players are interested in further details, please contact jowildman@hotmail.com
